What does a purple SWEEPSTAKES ribbon mean at a 4H fair?

I spontaneously entered the 4H fair and was shocked to find that I had won a purple sweepstakes ribbon. It has a large purple rosette with two ribbons. All help is appreciated! :)

What does a purple SWEEPSTAKES ribbon mean at a 4H fair?
I'd say purple is the best of show, even above a blue ribbon.

Congratulations.
Reply:It could mean that you placed best in show. or even could be a 1-4th place placement ribbon.

Today I received a letter from a company called Trinity Royal Sweepstakes and Lotteris, Is it real or fake?

I got a letter today in the mail from some sweepstakes company called Trinity sweepstakes and lotteris They say I won alot of money, Does anyone know if they are real or fake?

Today I received a letter from a company called Trinity Royal Sweepstakes and Lotteris, Is it real or fake?
I received the same letter with a check for 3000.00! I called the FBI. They said it was definitely a fraud. Unfortunately after doing further research on the "company" there is no record of any name or address in existence. This is BUNK! It's probably check fraud. They send us a check hoping we will deposit into our bank and then withdraw the funds and send the money back to them via private money gram. Once the bank finds out that the check is fake, we've already withdrawn the funds and are therefore responsible for repaying the bank. But, Trinity just conned us into giving them $$$! By the way, did you talk to a foriegn girl at 902-412-2937? If so, its definetely a crock of BUNK. They told me they were calling me from Las Vegas. The number is a Nova Scotia number! They even provided me an address to send the previously withdrawn funds. The authorities have told me that if you are the winner of a sweepstakes, you will receive payment for your winnings without any check cashing or other "scam type" involvement. Oh - and I looked up the name of the company listed on the check - a computer software company in California! This group is bouncing around so many places around the US and Canada, how could anyone trust such a letter or check to be real. And one more thing, how many sweepstakes official letters have you ever received with MISPELLED WORDS AND BAD PUNCTUATION???!!! Whoever wrote the letter either doesn't know how to use spell check or they don't speak very good English!!! DAMN FOREIGNERS!!!
Reply:i recieved the exact same letter! some bad speller (congratulation!) told me that i won $65,000 in some drawing that was falsely held in Las Vegas. I didn't even remember entering in those sweepstakes! I called the number, and talked to some lady named "Angela Hart" Report Abuse

Reply:i took the check to a bank to have them examine it, and they told me it was fraudulent, and they wanted to keep it for investigation. Report Abuse

Reply:if you really win something, you never have to pay money out of your own pocket to get it. if some "company" tries to tell you that you do, then it is a scam. please don't fall for it. unless losing a bunch of money isn't a problem for you. Report Abuse

Reply:ITS FAKE THERE IS NO SUCH THING IN WORLD WHICH IS FREE
Reply:IF YOU DIDN'T BUY A SWEEPSTAKES TICKET HOW IN THE HELL ARE YOU GOING TO WIN. DA
Reply:Fake.

We get these every couple of weeks at my bank from people trying to deposit them. The hope of the scammer is that you have that balance available (the taxes portion or whatever) and you'll go ahead and wire it or money order it to them before you and your bank figure out the check is bad. Then you are out whatever you sent back to them.
Reply:If it came with a bulk mail stamp, chances are it is fake. One way to find out is to take it to your bank or local police station. They usually know of all the scams going on.
Reply:It's fake, the scam is called the foreign lottery scam.

Can you recommend a great place for sweepstakes?

I want to find free give-aways that I can do online or even if I have to mail my entries. I used to do this many, many years ago via a list that a lady I used to work with used and I actually did win a few times. I got $1,500 once and then like 3rd and 4th place prizes.

Anyway, anyone a professional sweepstakes person?

Can you recommend a great place for sweepstakes?
I've started a running list of all the sweepstakes online, organized into how often you can enter.

Check it out at

I win a lot of radio contests...

sweepstakes are a little tougher though

Anyone ever win a sweepstakes for filling out store reviews?

Wonder if those reviews for sweepstakes from stores can be considered as scams to customers if the game is not even existed?

Does Anyone Know Any Sweepstakes or Contests To Enter?

I just moved into my first place, but I have NO furniture to furnish the house. My kids have some, but I have a bed and that is it. My clothes are still in bags. We need couches and mainly bedroom stuff and decorations. Does anyone know any contests or sweepstakes that the prize is the home being furnished?

Reply:You can try to win those sweepstakes, but your chance is usually pretty slim.

I'd stay take your chance at yard sales and/or secondhand goods stores. Oftentimes you can get decent stuff fairly inexpensive. My brother got a whole set of dining room chairs for like $16! He got a decent couch for $60. There's lots of other great deals out there as well! Tell family and friends that are in the area what you are doing so they can be on the lookout for great stuff as well.

Good luck!

Does anyone know of a legit sweepstakes entry service that actually works?

I used to use one years ago, and it worked, but I can't for the life of me remember the name of the company. I really liked it because not only did it automatically enter me into many sweepstakes, it also listed other sweepstakes which did not allow automatic entry so that I could enter those by hand if I wished. Does anyone know of any companies that offer services like this?

Ive never seen one yet. Other than the Irish sweepstakes or some other big sponsored even they are just to take you for your money.

Should one recieve a check from the Poloneto Sweepstakes and deposit, what is the recourse to my account?

Poloneto Sweepstakes winner with letter.

Deposited Check

Check bounced causing many over draft fees and service charges. Should I close the account? Put a hold on the account? Move to a different country? If so which country?

Can I sue somebody?

Is it fraud?

What is their motivation for doing this?

Other than the fees the bank has placed on my account, can it now be accessed from some remote source somewhere, anywhere for whoever to yank more funds out of my account?

Should one recieve a check from the Poloneto Sweepstakes and deposit, what is the recourse to my account?
It's a scam. Close your account immediately or they will drain it dry. Report it to the police and to scams@fraudinternational.com There isn't much that can be done because it is probably another Nigerian scam.

You can't win a lottery you didn't enter. If it looks too good to be true, it's a scam. You were taken.
Reply:they warn people all the time about these type of scams, yet a lot of dummies keep falling for it . Why??? STUPID!!!

Is it legal for a non-profit organization to hold either a national raffle or a national sweepstakes?

I am looking to organize a fundraiser to offset costs incurred by individual players on my sport's National Team. The national govering body for the sport is a not-for-profit organization, but this would not directly involve that organization in any way. Would a sweepstakes with "suggested donations" being payable online be legal?

Is it legal for a non-profit organization to hold either a national raffle or a national sweepstakes?
Non-profit organizations have raffles all the time, this is a common fund raising tool.

Just make sure it does not violate the bylaws of the non-profit and that you comply with whatever gambling laws are applicable (usually state laws). Many states have special gambling laws for non-profits for fundraisers just like this to make it easier for the non-profits than it would be for someone in business of gambling.

Why are sweepstakes in the US all required to have a (free) alternate method of entry?

Even if a sweepstakes requires a proof of purchase when you see it advertised on TV, magazines, ads...wherever, the fine print always specifies the availability of 'free entries,' usually that you get by mailing in a SASE to some address.

What is the historic and legal reasoning behind this decision? Please do not provide listings of sweepstakes, tips for 'winning,' or anything like that.

Why are sweepstakes in the US all required to have a (free) alternate method of entry?
In sweepstakes terms, "consideration" is simply payment for a prize. However, consideration doesn't have to be money; it can be anything that can profit the sponsor. For example, a company cannot require that entrants purchase a product to participate in sweepstakes (or, if they do, they must provide an alternate method of entry).

Generally, sweepstakes that award prizes by chance are not allowed to have an element of consideration.
Reply:its a law they made, since it is not really a contest if you have to buy something, otherwise it is a lottery

Why do Canadian sweepstakes winners have to answer an unaided, timed, mathmatical skill test question?

When reading the contest rules for various sweepstakes entries, I have noticed that there is always a caveat that if the winner is Canadian they must answer a timed, unaided mathmatical skill test question in order to win the prize. Why is this? And, how difficult is the math question?

Why do Canadian sweepstakes winners have to answer an unaided, timed, mathmatical skill test question?
I actually run a sweepstakes site at www.winanew.com, where you can win a:

- 2008 Mini Cooper S Convertible

- 46" Sony Bravia XBR HDTV

- Microsoft Xbox,

so am intimately familiar with the rules on raffles/sweepstakes, etc...

This is just a legal technicality in Canada... games of skill are allowed, so you have to answer the question correctly to win. FYI... the question can be as simple as you want it to be... like how much is 2+2.
Reply:This answer is not exactly correct. I work for a prize insurance company. The question can not be as simple as 2+2, the skill question must contain at least three numbers to actually be skill testing; for example, a common question might be "(2 × 4) + (10 × 3)" (Answer: 38). Report Abuse

Anyone know where to find info on How to win competitions or sweepstakes?

Hi,

I have just started entering competitions and sweepstakes, I have won a few things and its a great hobby but I am wondering if anyone knows where I can find out how to win competitions? I would love to get advice from other people who have made winning prizes a full time hobby because it seems really great.

Advice on how to win 25 word or less competitions or tie breakers or slogan contests I think they are called in other countries, anything to increase my wins would be great.

Thanks ;)

Anyone know where to find info on How to win competitions or sweepstakes?
Sorry but if I knew the answer you can be sure I would not give it out but use it for myself and live the life of luxury. You will just have to take your chances like everyone else does.
Reply:You could try searching the search engines for some answers or previous winning answers for competitions and things, there is a site called How to Win Prizes

that might help? Sounds like a great hobby, think I might have a little look myself.

Good luck ith your winning.

If you enter sweepstakes, what percentage of your winnings will they take for taxes?

I love to enter cash sweepstakes. I was wondering if I won, how much would Uncle Sam take? I live in MD. Like if I won 25,000...How much would I actually get?

If you enter sweepstakes, what percentage of your winnings will they take for taxes?
You will end up with about %60 of your total winnings. So, if you won $25,000 then you can expect to net about $15,000.
Reply:i don`t know about 25,000 but i knew someone who won 100,000 and she ended up with about 64,000
Reply:They Federal Government has an automatic 25% withholding. This is not the total income tax liability. The total federal income tax liability will be the 25k+earned income +unearned income+or- adjustments-exemption-deductions=taxable income*tax rate.

For the state of Maryland is your MD tax rate percentage.
Reply:the US prize tax is about 40%
Reply:40% of $ 25,000.00 is $15,000.00 Taxes are $10,000.00 now think on what you will be spending it .
Reply:Whatever your state tax and federal tax is. In New York, you'd receive about 60-65% of your winnings.

How do I have to report sweepstakes income if I sell the prize?

I won a prize back in August 2006 worth almost as much as a car (about $9000). I still have it, but have never used it, and was just waiting for winter to end so I could decide if I want to keep it or sell it. I already paid sales tax on it.

But, for income tax purposes, I am assuming I have to report the entire value as 2006 income. That's fine, but what if I sell the item in 2007 for less than it's worth (say $7500)???

Can I then declare my sweepstakes income for 2006 as $7500, or do I have to report the whole thing? it's going to be hard enough to pay federal + state income tax on an extra $7500 let alone the full $9000.

Thanks

How do I have to report sweepstakes income if I sell the prize?
You have to report the fair market value of the prize in the year you won the prize. As long as you sell the prize for less than what you claimed it was worth when you won it, then there are no more additional taxes. If you sell it for more than $9000, then the difference is a captial gain.
Reply:Did they give you a 1099?? If not then they didn't report it. It's probably the more ethical thing to do to claim any money made from this.. but you could probably get away with not claiming it.
Reply:You have to report the whole value of the prize on your 2006 tax return. You had the prize at the end of 2006. It goes on Line 21 of the 1040 form.
Reply:u can get deductions on federal + state tax .

go through this tax filing site for federal taxes. here's the address

How would I conduct a legal sweepstakes for my small business in Texas?

I'm considering doing a sweepstakes to giveaway granite countertops and installation. I've read that raffles are illegal. How would I go about running a legal sweepstakes and advertising this event in Texas?

How would I conduct a legal sweepstakes for my small business in Texas?
Are you currently advertisting? If you do, then include the submission form with your ad. The reason is the person who got the sweepstake might already have a counter top, so your gift might not be usable to them, unless it has cash value which I don't recommand.

If you include submission in the ads, then you can collect customer information, to send them direct mail later on. Think about it. Try valpak, merchandiser or clipper magazine, there are ones who have lots home improvement ads inside.
