I am stuck on Saint Helena in the Volvo "The Hunt" sweepstakes. How do I find the coordinates? HELLP

I have tried everything that I could think of to find the coordinates but nothing is working. Someone please help! I've climbed up and down that ladder 100 times looking. I am probably dead last in the race but I just want to get to the end. Thanks for your help.

I am stuck on Saint Helena in the Volvo "The Hunt" sweepstakes. How do I find the coordinates? HELLP
The keyword to accessing Saint Helena is Count, which is a hint as to what you must do on this island... count the rounds of the ladder.

The first round says 35, and tells you to go up 35 rounds to the next round which tells you two things, a coordinate and the number of the next round you must visit. They are:

START 35

1 - 64

7 - 16

0 - 96

6 - 11

S - 15

4 - 72

9 - 58

4 - 8

8 - 90

How are winnings paid from international sweepstakes?

I got an email too from an international source saying that I won an international sweepstake. I read the entire email and it was sent to me by someone with a yahoo account however, they were supposedly using the international company's memo. I believe it is a spam. Have you ever applied for an international sweepstake? If you have never applied, then how can you win one??

Can you explain the differences and related legal requirements among a sweepstakes, giveaway, & contest?

Sweepstake's winners seem to be randomly selected? Contest winners are selected by judges? Giveaway? For online sweepstakes does there have to be an alternate means of entery (ie. postal)?

Can you explain the differences and related legal requirements among a sweepstakes, giveaway, %26amp; contest?
You're right, sweepstakes winners generally are selected randomly, and for that reason there can be no consideration - or financial benefit to the sponsor - for holding a sweepstake. Contests are judged, and therefore not random. That's why they can legally charge entry fees (though not all of them do). Giveaways are technically freebie offers where everyone who enters receives a prize, but many use this as a generic term for both sweepstakes and contests.

Some people believe that requiring an internet connection might be considered a form of consideration, so they offer an alternate, mail-in method of entry. Others say that the entrants must have had internet access before the start of the sweepstake to avoid this problem. I don't believe it has been tested in court, and many online sweepstakes do not offer an alternate entry method.

Do you know if anybody ever won Publishers Clearing house Sweepstakes?

I've never known anyone personally.

But, I do know Publishers Clearing House has had charges brought on them by the government for being dishonest.

Florida had pressed federal charges, but I haven't heard how that turned out.

I used to play, but I just throw it all in the trash now.

If it is real, I'm helping someone out by not participating.

But, personally, I know they're crooks and I don't want involved in their lies.

Yes, we had a lady here in our town win 10 mil. quite a long time ago. We had a friend win a boat.

Are this sweepstakes online or lottery for real or only hoax?

Such as THE AUSTRALIAN INTERNATIONAL LOTTERY PROGRAMME and the UK INTERNATIONAL LOTTERY.

Are this sweepstakes online or lottery for real or only hoax?
If you have received an unsolicited email stating you have won such a lottery and you haven't participated, then this is a SCAM. The below links confirm various email scams hitting the internet, including the famous Yahoo/MSN lottery scams and how to report them - (with links for your own country.) :

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/or...

Unscrupulous thieves have sent you this email and they are trying to part you from your hard earned cash. They will often ask you to call a premium rate number and keep you holding on whilst you rack up a huge phone bill. They are then paid a large proportion of this phone bill. They may ask you to divulge personal information about yourself or ask for your bank or credit card details. Do not divulge any such information under any circumstances. It is surprising how many innocent victims have been duped by these types of emails. Please remember the thieves who send them are very clever and extremely convincing. I suggest you delete the email and send it into cyberspace, hopefully along with the thieving scumbags who send them.

I was wondering if anyone has ever received a fake sweepstakes winners notification?

I recieved a letter in the mail saying I have won 98,000 dollars and with the letter came a check for "processing fee's and forgien transfer fee's". I tried to call the number on the letter but it was a voice mail box saying leave a message and they will call you back but the box was full. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Why do i have to cash their check and mail it back as a cashiers check back to the sweepstakes people?

i received a letter and a REAL check from a sweepstakes drawing done by Readers Digest and it's for $3,100.00 I called the number on the bottom of the letter and they stated that i had to CASH that check and let it clear and MAIL it back to them in order to receive my lump sum of $65,000.00 What kind of scam is this and how does it work? I don't understand why they cant just keep their check and SEND me my so called: LUMP SUM! Is their any way to bust these people from commiting such a crime, if it is even a crime?Whats the whole point in US cashing the check and MAiling it back to them as a different form of check????

Why do i have to cash their check and mail it back as a cashiers check back to the sweepstakes people?
no clue but "buyer beware"/ sounds pretty bogus to me so be careful their $3100.00 check is not deposited to your account then quickly withdrawn by them thereby scamming you for the bucks. Sounds odd that RD would do this sort of thing but hey, ya just never know.I'd call back and ask for a second opinion too and get a contact name and phone no of the person you chatted with.
Reply:I don't really understand this but It doesn't sound right.

Perhaps you should call Readers' Digest ( and NOT the number listed on the bottom of that letter) ...and ask THEM if the check is for real.

"Sweepstakes" letters scam a lot of people ... into buying magazines .. into "sending money to collect money" ... etc

I think you are correct to be suspicious/

Be careful ... call the REAL Reraders'Digest.
Reply:You're right to question it. It's a scam. The check they sent you is bogus. Just throw it away or use it to start your fireplace. That's all it's good for.
Reply:Well its like this buddy, theyre trying to take you. That check in your hand is a counterfiet and I think you knew from the start. What they often like to do instead of cashing their phony checks is to recruit people off the net to do it for them. Usually, they'll have you put the money into a money order or a cashiers check because those cant be faked. Then while the money is on its way to sunny nigeria, youre brought up on federal charges for forgery (and believe me they will persecute you). So heres what you do. Send me this check and I'll help this friend of yours see the err of his ways.

The REAL Reader's Digest are headquartered in Pleasantville, NY, I think. They would probably appreciate your forwarding all the bogus materials to their corporate office. You can probably Google that address, send it to the attention of the C.E.O.

Not even worth calling them. Don't even incur a phone call for your expense. Just a postage stamp.

There are 1000's of people doing the bogus check, bogus USPS Money Order, bogus other money order stuff nowadays. The object is always to get YOU to cash the bogus check AT YOUR BANK and then forward some or alll (usually nearly all) of the proceeds somewhere else.

They end up with most of the money. You end up reimbursing the bank and explaining to the FBI that you are really not a criminal, etc. etc. etc.

Bank Tellers then very wary of YOU, or at least think you are a real dummy.

Might be something at http://www.msb.gov

FBI "not interested unless check is cashed." yep, that is a quote

SECRET SERVICE has a place to send emails, what happens after that you never find out, nor are the emails acknowledged in any way.

That's Life in the Big City forya, eh?
Reply:Because their check is not real. They need you to send a cashier's check so that they can get your money.
Reply:SCAM ALERT!!!!!!!!

Contact the Attorney General's office of consumer affairs for your state and forward this to them.
Reply:It is called money laundering. Their money is illegally gotten, and by having you cash them and send it back to them all trails lead to you receiving and transmitting illegal money.
Reply:call your local consumer advocate on TV and put them on this they will have the time and influence to get to the bottom of this
Reply:Because it is a scam.

They send you a bogus check which you deposit in your account. You send them a cashiers check [guaranteed by the bank against your account] they cash it and disappear.

Go right ahead and send them the cashiers check, if you want to be out $3100!

Report them to the Federal Trade Commission what they are doing is mail fraud.
Reply:When something seems too good to be true, it almost always is. Has anyone asked you to send money to Africa to free up a lost gold mine yet? It is also a good policy to avoid buying bridges.

Who wins the Johan Sanatana sweepstakes?

The Yanks say that time is up, and the deadline has been passed. However, they said the same thing about A-Rod, and he ended up getting 30 million a year. I would hope that the Yankees get him, but if not, I don't want the Red Sox to get him. But their offer was pretty good...You think the Yankees would give Ian Kennedy in addition to Melky and Hughes, even though they said they won't give Kennedy?

Who wins the Johan Sanatana sweepstakes?
In my opinion the New York Yankees will end up with Santana, but the Yankees net to negotiate a trade with the Twins NOT involving Phil Hughes. Ian and Melky are great prospects, but I just don't think they heve the talent Phil Hughes has. Mabey the Yanks should throw Shelly Duncan and Robinson Cano into the deal. If, and only if, the Yanks don't bite, Santana will stay a Twin for 1 more year. For all of the people who say the Sox will end up with Santana are crazy, the Sox already have to many pitchers, they need to get a new left fielder.
Reply:2007 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS BOSTON RED SOX.

They're deal getting Santana and the Twins getting Lester Coco Crisp and 4 minor Leaguers will make the most sense.
Reply:Nobody. Because like I said 4 days ago in a post in here-Twins won't trade him.
Reply:i think my sox get it the angels were never really involved the redsox seem to be the only ppl still involved and i doubt the twins will keep a player who doesnt want to be there it wouldnt be smart
Reply:only because you asked...

you know what i think?

what i think is that we should just wait instead of wasting points asking the same question 15 times a day. because no one REALLY TRULY knows where he is going to wind up. sure we can make predictions, but who really knows for sure becasue anything can happen!
Reply:i say he goes no where, sox and yanks seem to be just going against eachother to drive the price up. Sox wont get him unless it's lester ellsbury, or bucholz and ellsbury. not one or the other. thats ALLOT to give up, including the fact he will want a long term deal in the 18-20 mil a year range.
Reply:Don't seem to feel "my" Yankees getting him....the winner of the "sweepstakes" will be Santana with the contract that he will get....really a great pitcher and if he goes to the "STINKIN RED SOX"......then we will be playing for the :"wild card".....he is really a great pitcher and still young!
Reply:Quite honestly I think AND hope that nobody will. There defiantly hasn't been any fair trade rumors that have been proposed. i mean come on, this is a future hall of famer we are talking about here. The Twins management may be real cheap, but I hope they are not stupid. Those trades that the Sox and Yanks are proposing for him are defiantly not even. I hope the Twins are smart enough to keep Santana at least until the trade deadline.
Reply:I think the Sox are the only team still in the running for him and I heard it might even happen after the winter meetings are over.
Reply:If i was a betting man, I'd say Boston has the best shot. Their offer that centers around Jon Lester is a very good one. I saw Jed Lowrie and Justin Masterson play in Portland, Maine over the summer and they are very very good young players (in the game I went to Masterson threw 8 innings and gave up 1 run) and Coco Crisp is a great defensive center fielder who can hit well and steal a ton of bases. If Boston gets Santana, I think you'll see an extension of 5 years at an average of $23.5 million per season.

I'll be honest here. I'm from Boston and hope that if the trade is made, this is the package the Twins take. I don't want to see Jacoby Ellsbury leave. He's the most exciting player we've had in a long time and could be a great player. At the end of the day, I'm happy with my Red Sox whether Santana comes here or not.
Reply:no I don't...that is too much to give up for one pitcher...yes it's a really good pitcher...but eventually Hughes and Kennedy probably will be too.
Reply:well the mariners can offer adam jones and the angels COULD offer jered weaver brandon wood and more and he might not be traded..
Reply:The Sox seem to have the inside track, but the Mets are now coming on stronger, and even though they said they're out can you trust the Yankees after they caved in to ARod?

I think it's Sox, Mets, Yankees in that order right now. Yanks are last since they got Pettitte back (it lowers their need).

Reply:Have you ever heard of the company? Do a Google search for the name of the claims agent or lottery company. In most cases you will find many fraudulent mails that people have received and published to warn others.

1.Even if the name of the lottery doesn't come up, search for a few phrases. Most lottery scams use recycled texts. In many cases even the "winning numbers" stay the same for draws on different dates.

2.What email address did this arrive from? Is it a webmail service like netscape.net, tiscali.co.uk, tiscali.fr, atlas.cz, winning.com, zwallet.com, etc.? Real companies generally have their own corporate domains and real websites.

3.What email address was it addressed to? In many fraud mail cases, the recipient address is suppressed ("None") or it matches the sender address or a close variation thereof.

4.Email is too unreliable to notify prize winners. Real lotteries don't use email to notify winners. Either they have to come forward on their own or they are notified by registered mail.

5.Do the spelling and grammar in the mail you received look like legitimate business mail?

6.Does the email give a postal address and phone number for the lottery company, or if you are told to contact a handling agent, for the agent?

7.Does the email mention a "mix up of some numbers and names" and ask you to "keep your Winning information confidential until your claims have been processed"?

8.Are any phone numbers listed mobile phone numbers (such as 0031-6 for Dutch mobile phones or +234 80 for Nigerian mobile phones)?

9.Real lottery companies don't charge you 550 euros or more for paperwork to receive your winnings. Fake lotteries do, and then don't deliver any winnings...
Reply:It's just one of a million and one scams floating around the net - don't give them any personal information in fact just disregard all emails claiming you won something unless you did actually enter a sweepstakes. If you give them any personal information you're just a step away from having your identity stolen.

How do I check if international sweepstakes winning is real?

Fortune international Sweepstakes is the name

How do I check if international sweepstakes winning is real?
There is no International Lottery. This is a Nigeria scam. Yahoo/MSN, U.K. and Australian lotteries, football lotteries from the same counties, Global-Link, World Poverty, Microsoft, Free Lotto, which now seems to have it's own people answering gambling questions on this site claiming they have won which is a total lie, and hundreds more. I am a retired Police Officer that has years of experience investigating Internet scams and frauds. This is an old one. The common link to them getting your email is on line surveys. Yahoo does not give it's stock holders money away nor does it give it's email subscribers address's to lotteries. The only way to win in a lottery is to buy a ticket, if you didn't you could not possibly win. Here is the website of the 17 nation law enforcement task force that investigates cross border Internet crime. You may file a complaint there. www.econsumer.gov. Also go to www.ripoffreport.com and browse complaints and you will find many having the same doubts as yourself about these scams. Below is a typical scam and how they work it. They just go under a thousand different names. They are asking you to send a prepayment to collect your winnings and they want you to send it by a money wire service. Lotteries do not just pick your name out of thin air, and just so happen to have your email also. No Internet service provider gives their email list out to lotteries. If you did not pay to play you could not possibly win.

What team will win the Mark Teixeria sweepstakes?

The Rangers want to trade him -- but who will pay the price??

What team will win the Mark Teixeria sweepstakes?
The Rangers will win - if you can call it a win. I don't think any team is willing to give up as much as Texas wants for him and the Rangers GM still has a bad taste in his mouth from the Chris Young and Adrian Gonzalez trades so I don't see him backing down off of his asking price.

I'm not 100% positive on what the Rangers want fot him, but I believe it is 1 or 2 pitching prospects that will be ready for the majors by next spring and 1 position player in the same situation.
Reply:The Angels got him.
Reply:Mark teixera will not be traded if there gm asks that much. He wanted Phillip Hughes from New York. The Rangers are in a tough position because they cant afford Teixera and theyre not going to get full price for him.
Reply:no one will take him the Rangers are asking for to much
Reply:The Braves are the frontrunners but other teams are also interested.
Reply:Red Sox could get him if the rangers ask for lowell delcarmen and hansen. if they ask for youklis ellsbury and gabbard then no and i know the rangers are asking for the second one.
Reply:I don't think he gets traded.
Reply:Braves:

Jarrod Saltalamacchia and a pitching prospect.

Just by being a Scott Boras client really drops his stock. People really don't want to deal with that punk. But at least Tex will only be under arbitration and can't become a FA until '09.
Reply:braves. sweepstakes The Rangers are asking for the moon. Teams have to gut their team to get him.
Reply:I think he will go to a National League team, and it wouldn't surprise me to see him wind up with the Braves. I know the Braves have expressed an interest.
Reply:Im a big Red Sox fan and would love to see him in Boston. However if he comes he'll play first and Youk and Lowell will be up in the air for third. The cost of this trade will more than liekly not only be money but team unity, in that Youk and Lowell will not be happy.

Is it legal to set up a sweepstakes like "join my newsletter to enter for a chance to win xyz?"

Setting up a sweepstakes to collect email addresses?
As far as I know, and depending on your state, it is legal to do this IF you actually award the prize(s) and follow your own rules.
Reply:Harvesting email addresses is not the way to get more subscribers for your newsletter/ You can buy names and address from firms that collect them for you. They have different lists for different businesses and that the correct way to get new contacts. Sweepstakes have very specific rules and you need to know what they are for your state. Doing this across state lines can be touchy too so watch out. If your newsletter has one specific audience/reader you should look int the right place to find address of people who are genuinely interested in that subject. If you run a sweepstakes that signs people up they may all unsubscribe right away so it was all a waste of time.

Have you stopped participating in sweepstakes and givaways because of the internet codes?

I think that it is an annoying gimmic to get all of your information. I remember the days when I was a child and when we used to buy a Dr. Pepper and win another Dr. Pepper from under the lid. Now days you have to read the codes on stuff and log in to their website. No only that, you have to give them alot of personal information and opt out of receiving all of their spam. Also I have never won a free anything after doing all of this, so I have finally stopped.

Have you stopped participating in sweepstakes and givaways because of the internet codes?
Well, I certainly hear that!

Not only that, but did you ever wonder that their real (and main) purpose, in all that "giveaway" nonsense was to "harvest your personal information"?

I mean...for you to continue, on their website page(s), you have to give them all that personal information. So, I really think that people are just being tricked, by that, into giving their personal info. for adding to a database of information that those people sell as mailing lists.

In the end, the one who "gets something free" is not you, after all!

(It is THEM!)

Think about it!

(Hmmm. Tricky bastards)
Reply:have never participated and never will..
Reply:Yes. They want waaaaaaay too much info from you to turn around and say "Sorry. You're not a winner this time. Try again." It makes me wonder if they REALLY have prizes to give away, or if they simply want to fill up your e-mail with junk.
Reply:no, I just got frustrating not winning anything after all the times I've played. Heck I'm not even winning consolation prizes.

Who's Sir Richard Davis of UK national lottery sweepstakes?

Can he or has the power to stop these scams?

Who's Sir Richard Davis of UK national lottery sweepstakes?
Whoever he is, niether he nor Yahoo are able to do anything about these scams. The messages come from computers which are taken over by hackers and used for this purpose. It is almost impossible to catch these people. The main thing is for us to be careful not to fall for their scams. Don't answer just delete them Good luck and be careful.
Reply:I doubt he even exists. It's just a made up name with a made up title to try and convey trust.

These scams often originate in desperately poor third world countries like Nigeria. Their priorities are dealing with grinding poverty and violent crime. They don't have the time or resources to investigate some guy sitting in an Internet cafe sending scam emails to thousands of people.
Reply:Its a scam...... dont fall for it just delete it.

Do you think that sweepstakes, put on by major companies and brands, are legit?

Or do you think they have a designated winner before hand that just accepts the money and returns it to the company. Or do they even go through that much trouble?

Do you think that sweepstakes, put on by major companies and brands, are legit?
Publisher's Clearing House is one example. They have been around for decades and do award prizes. None have a designated winner. They either select the winner (s) from entries selected or don't select one at all (total scam).

When you win a sweepstakes do you pay taxes before you get it or when you get it?

is it a scam when a organization say they will take the taxes out before you get them

When you win a sweepstakes do you pay taxes before you get it or when you get it?
No, it is not a scam. If you win a sweepstakes, the prize money is subject to income taxes, and the organization can withhold income taxes before giving you the prize. This will be reported to the IRS on the 1099MISC that will also be issued to you. You may owe more or less than what was withheld. This is figured on your tax return.

Keep all documentation regarding the award, so that you have a record of where your prize money went.
Reply:It's a scam if they ask you to pay the taxes by going to Western Union and sending it John Smith.

It's not a scam if you win a cash prize and they take the taxes out of your winnings. You would get a 1099-Misc for the prize and it would show both the prize and the withholdings.

If you win a car, you'd have to hand over a check for 20%, but only when you went in person to pick up the car.
Reply:If they want you to send them money up front for taxes, delivery fees or anything else, yes it's a scam.

If it's a legit win, then they would take taxes out of the winnings, so if for example you won $10,000 they might take out $2000 for tax and send you the other $8000 - but if they asked you to send THEM the $2000 and said then they'd send you your winnings, it's a scam.
Reply:It is not a scam if they are deducting the taxes from your winnings since they are the ones who must provide that money to the government. It is a scam if they want you to send them the tax amount before you actually get the winnings. A matter of fact that is the indication of a scam when they ask for money from you instead of deducting the tax money from the winnings.
Reply:This is a scam!!! Do not give them any money.

You don't pay taxes on winnings until you receive the winnings, or until you file your taxes the following year.

You should report this organization to the fraud bureau of the IRS immediately.
Reply:Yes, companies can withhold taxes that you would own on the winning amount. Same as if you went to a casino, and won a large amount.
Reply:Scam.

I have heard that they are scams

Have u heard of a sweepstakes issuing checks from Bernards builders/management?

I was sent a check for over $3000.00 for entering an online sweepstakes. This check is from Bernards and uses Mellon 1rst buisness bank in Encino California. This money is suppossed to go towards obtaining my final award of $70,000 and such a fee is necessary because the funds are processed internationally. Is this a scam?

Have u heard of a sweepstakes issuing checks from Bernards builders/management?
I would have to say it is most likely a scam. If you have actually won a sweepstakes, they should be able to take any fees out of the money you won. There is a common scam where people are sent invalid checks, asked to return money to the company, in order to either sell or get more money. When in doubt, check Snopes and see what you can find there. Here are links to two stories about your situation.

http://www.snopes.com/crime/fraud/lotter...

Snopes also mentions that your situation is a version of the cashier's check fraud.

Simply put, I wouldn't send them a dime. I would have your bank check out the validity of the check. Good luck!
Reply:Yes, i recieved the same letter and check saying that i won $3158.43 from Bernards Builders, Management Services. I think it is a scam but the check looks soooo real. Report Abuse

I told them now if this was a gimmick i was gonna send them a bill for all I had done to prepare for this.

THEY never sent me anymore....LOL LOL
Reply:Yes people actually win but you have to spend a lot of money entering.

A fashion company plans to create an online sweepstakes where there will be outfit giveaways.?

fashion company plans to create an online sweepstakes where there will be outfit giveaways. To enter, the contestants must fill out an online survey questionnaire. Can a company legally do it in FL, CA and NY? Where can I start finding what the laws are on this? I heard FL is the most stringent in terms of online sweepstakes. Thanks.

A fashion company plans to create an online sweepstakes where there will be outfit giveaways.?
To check out the laws that apply to your sweepstakes, you should speak with a sweepstakes lawyer. There are many professionals who specialize in this area of law. The laws do vary greatly depending on the state, which is why many sweepstakes restrict entry from Florida, New York, and Rhode Island. In many cases, the size of the prize is relevant. For example, Florida laws previously required bonding if the sweepstakes prize was valued at more than $5,000. Now the laws have been amended to make it easier for sponsors (here's an article with more information: http://www.fredlaw.com/articles/marketin...

To ensure that your sweepstakes is legal, speak to a lawyer or have a professional sweepstakes service design your giveaway. For example, this site will help you create a legal and effective sweepstakes: http://www.onlinesweeps.com/promotion.ht...

Has Anyone Recieved A Check In The Mail Saying They Won A Sweepstakes?

If you did it's a Scam going around and would like to know if there's anyone else that got ripped off by this scam?

Has Anyone Recieved A Check In The Mail Saying They Won A Sweepstakes?
I heard of a scam like this on the news today. I wouldn't cash it, I would say it's a scam. If you're really interested, call the number or google search it.

Update: I found an article in my local newspaper and have attached it for you.....

The scam begins when a letter is sent via the U.S. Postal Service from a foreign or unknown address, according to police. The letter usually informs the person that he or she has won a contest or sweepstakes, and instructs the recipient to cash an enclosed check for a large amount of money and send a portion of it to a specific electronic account or address. Those addresses or accounts, however, are generally unable to be tracked to someone, according to police.

Other incidents ask the person to provide an account number in which the winnings can be deposited, according to police.

Police say that none of the contests or sweepstakes are legitimate, and residents are encouraged to report these crimes.

Reply:It's a scam. They send you the check, but it's a discount voucher for looking at some real estate they are offering for sale. Never give your personal info like bank account or social security numbers to these people.
Reply:this one is one of many types of scam, check the fine print on the papers that were in the envelope, if theres a check, with your name on it make sure that you destroy it immediately, do not cash it. chances are that it is the starting point of a very expensive loan that you just signed for , and that it would be very hard to get rid of once it goes to a reputable bank.the old maxims are still true, if the item in question is too good to be true, then it probably is. buyer beware the ulcer you save may be your own.

Do you have to pay taxes on money you win in an international sweepstakes before you get your winning amount?

I supposedly won an international sweepstakes . They sent me a check, I was to make sure the check cleared, then there would be instructions on to where to send the "tax" money, then in 5 days I would get my winnings

Do you have to pay taxes on money you win in an international sweepstakes before you get your winning amount?
I don't know of another country other than the US that will pay sweepstakes to anyone other than a citizen of its own country. You are about to be cheated out of your money. Do not send the "tax money." This is a fraud. To begin with if you actually won money and you did receive it you would pay the taxes to the IRS in this country. Take the "check" to the police department in your city and let them check it out for you. I'm sure they have a scam expert there that will be happy to advise you.
Reply:It's a scam, don't do it. If it was for real then you would pay the taxes at the end of the year when you file your regular taxes.
Reply:yes any money that has not been taxed will be when it hits the us it is similar to a car when bought in another state with no tax if your state has car tax when you go to get your tag you will get taxed.

Is there a free lotto sweepstakes international from the UK?

e-mail said that my yahoo e-mail address was a winner in this sweepstakes want to know if it is lagit or a scam

Is there a free lotto sweepstakes international from the UK?
This is a recurrent question here. No, there isn't. You haven't played and nobody will give you any prizes for nothing, merely selecting your email address. To cut it short, it's one of the oldest scams around. They want you to give them money, not the other way around.
Reply:scam
Reply:This is a big scam! I got it and sent it to our Attorney General - he said anything from a foreign country is probably a scam and that if they request money up front (and they did for delivery) than it definitely is a scam. The UK does have a lottery and I contacted them also. They never request money to get your prize if you win. Hope this helps!

If anyone has won a pepsi stuff sweepstakes how do you know if you won?

If anyone has won a pepsi stuff sweepstakes how do you know if you won?
I'd imagine you could contact Pepsi Stuff support to possibly find out. There's no way you can check it via the Pepsi Stuff website itself. I've won a 8 GB Zune from Pepsi Stuff, and I was never notified by e-mail or phone. The item just arrived at my front door, which included a note inside the shipping box, congratulating me. If it was for a larger valued prize (ex: trips), you would obviously be notified.
Reply:Same here, I won one of the flip recorders. I had no clue I won until I got a note to pick up a package at the post office. It kind of sucks not knowing since you are only allowed to win once (per prize) and you could stick a lot of points in there for something you already won.

I got that in the mail, but I didn't cash the check. It was sort of funny because when I called the number for my representative, and asked for the specific name mentioned, the person said "UHH that me I guess." then she told me to cash the check and send it western union to a different address and name instead of the company she was supposedly from. Plus the check Itself had a two different Bank names with two different addresses that were from the US when the company was supposed to be from canada.

What online sweepstakes are for real? Most I've entered want my email, address, phone number, and none seem

legitimate. anyone actually won an online sweeps or know of someone who did?

What online sweepstakes are for real? Most I've entered want my email, address, phone number, and none seem
I've been entering online sweepstakes since 2000 and I've won plenty of things. I've won $10K, $5K, and $1500 cash, each on separate occasions, a 65" TV, a Cozumel cruise, an Xbox (back when they were new), and many, many other things. My advice to you is to stick to sweepstakes sponsorsed by large companies you have heard about. I won the TV from TBS Superstation (on their website) and the $5K from About.com, for example. If you come across a sweepstakes entry form and you can't figure out who's sponsoring it, or, the sponsor is some outfit you've never heard of, chances are it's either not legit or they're just harvesting email addresses. Good luck!
Reply:I have never won. Don't know anyone who has. If they are based in the US, legally someone has to win. Mostly, the main reason for the sweeps is to get you to do exactly what you did, which is give up your personal information so someone can try and sell you something later. Your true prize is a lot of junk mail and email.
Reply:your email is very important...if you get two pieces of good mail and you give it to someone who will sell your email adress to a bulk mailer...you willl get somewhere between 3 and 5 hundred peices of mail from Viagra or some other dealer that you didn't want....so now your email adress is full of junk and you didn't get the money either!!! how sad.

Am I wasting my time and energy with entering the Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes?

PCH sends me notices of new drawings via email and I continue to enter them. I heard just recently on a news channel that someone had found dumpsters full of mailed in entries (unopened) outside of the PCH building. That makes me wonder if the entries done online even goes to their system. I can't help but be wonder if it is all just a waste of time. Then again there is that part of me that is hopefull and enters "just in case".

Am I wasting my time and energy with entering the Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes?
Just in case do not get your hopes up!! I have done that for years and no luck in winning! Good Luck!!
Reply:its more or less like a scam, they want you to spend alot of money then you never win. i know people who has played for years and never came close to winning. just a rip off.they getting rich not you.
Reply:There's no harm in it, since you're not actually gambling. But your chances of winning are about as good as hitting the lottery, which isn't saying much.

After signing up a little over a year ago, I was bombarded with daily e-mails telling me I could easily win. Of course they tried to entice me to buy products with every one. Lots of products, which you have to scan through to find the heart of the message. You have to respond to each e-mail in order to have a shot at winning, which always takes time.

Naturally, they claim that making a purchase doesn't increase the chances of winning, but I've always wondered about that.

They're good at what they do. They'll send you e-mails saying that someone with your initials in your city and state is going to win. Their prize patrol is scheduled to hand out a prize in your city in the very near future. If you memorize the following message and say it when you win, you'll win more. Don't miss out. Hurry, and all the other hype that goes along with it.

I eventually grew tired of the flooded inbox and just stopped replying. Eventually the e-mails stopped.

Your call. If you decide to continue, I wish you the best.

What is a "sweepstakes award" at the county fair?

I entered several photographs in my local county fair this past week, and they gave out several awards - Best of Show, Honorable Mention, etc., which I understand. I won a ribbon that says "Sweepstakes Award". Does anyone have any idea what that means?

I have always thought "sweepstakes" referred to a random selection out of a hat, so to speak. If that is the case, it is not much of an award!! :-)

Thanks.

That's a new one for me. Perhaps in the event of a tie they literally do pick one out of a hat?

I'd ask the organizers or check the fair book. Perhaps they have a definition in there.

Do people really win department store sweepstakes?

I have been entering online sweepstakes for department stores online. Do people really win these things?

Do people really win department store sweepstakes?
Absolutely! No retailer is going to risk legal action or stake the company by running a scam.

Sweepstakes are designed for two things:

1) Get butts in the store. It's the same as when they advertise a "loss leader," an item they're selling at or below cost for the express purpose of getting people in the store to, hopefully, buy higher-margin items in addition to or instead of the advertised product. In addition, hopefully they'll attract some residual business from those being introduced to the store for the first time.

2) To collect marketing information. Some may sell your personal information, however major retailers are likely to keep it confidential. There's a surprising value in simply knowing what zip code, or what age group, fox example, the bulk of those entering the contest (i.e. those responding to their marketing strategy) are in.

So go ahead and enter the sweepstakes! If you're doing it online or if an entry form asks for an e-mail address, however, you may consider using a secondary e-mail address -one you don't mind directing a bit of junk mail to.
Reply:If it is a reputable department store and website, yes.

"Sweepstakes" you find about via SPAM or crappy ads on certain sites (Hit the monkey with the spitball and win a FREE Ipod Nano!) are bogus at best, and phishing schemes at worst. Not to say there aren't legitimate contests out there---Spam is just not the way to find out about them.
Reply:I use Honiwon.com every day. The url is http://www.honiwon.com

I've entered lots of sweeps on that website and had no problems with anything. Report Abuse

Reply:If it from Yahoo, its probably not fake. You can go to Germany for the FIFA World Cup 2006 if you win. All you have to do is use Yahoo Answers (Keep answering and increase your points) or keep adding friends in your Yahoo Mssngr!

I'm writing this answer, coz I wish I could win!!!
Reply:Yes most of them are, but the chances of winning something is highly unlikely. The purpose of them is to promote a product. You know the old saying...If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Who is the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office Chairman?

excerpts from Inquirer news "...Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. The series of turnover of ambulance units was headed by PCSO Chairman Sergio O. Valencia and General Manager Rosario C. Uriarte..."

What is the best web site for free samples and sweepstakes?

If you go to myspace.com they constantly have ads about that. They give you too much spam not enough free products and they ask u to sign up for stuff and you end up spending more than getting. I guess there is no free stuff out there. Its just a marketing scam.

What is the best web site for free samples and sweepstakes?
Looking for freebies will vastly increase your junk email, making it very difficult to work on the relatively small wanted emails.

The best of all sites for sweepstakes is:

httpL//www.online-sweepstakes.com Save this to Favorites. I keep looking, but I have never found another site even close to this one, especially for avoiding all advertising, gimmicks and pressure selling irrelevant to the seepstakes and making it more difficult to access and enter them.

Many people report winning there, but good luck. I have tried for a very long time with zero results.

I have gotten some results from the old fashioned way, mailing in sweepstakes entries, but that was previous to 1995.

Haven't been doing that all the ensuring years.

Too busy.
Reply:I like StartSampling. They don't update as frequently as I'd like, but the samples are sound and I don't get spam email as a result.

Nice feature: the magazine samples are hassle-free - you get whatever subscription they offer, and you do not have to cancel anything. (They'll just send you renewal offers to entice you to pay for it when the subscription ends.)

Thanks.

What is a "sweepstakes award" at the county fair?
Sweepstakes Award means it is the best of the best and the highest award you can get!!!

Huge Congratulations on that!!! You are the Best of the Best in the County!!! WOW!!!

Yes, I have 2 of those rosettes and highly treasure them and the afghans I won them on.

I have won a sweepstakes in London of 1,500,000 pounds, how much is that in american money, amd how much tax?
I don't know if you really have won a lottery, but:

it may be fake. To test it to see if it is fake:

To see if it is fake, copy the whole email address it was sent from, then go to google.com and do a search for that email address (paste it into the google.com search box). That email address may be on a site that reveals emails of "scammers". You can do that also for any email address they give to contact them by.

More on the sender address of the email: even if the sender email address shows it is from a government website, scammers can do that: scammers can make email addresses that look really real, I have read somewhere.

-------------------

Also, if you send info to them, they may use that info to steal your money? But that's if you really never won a lottery. I don't know if it is the real thing or a scam.
Reply:to win the Irish sweeps, you have to have bought tickets.

got your receipt from buying them?

samspade.org still maintains an ISP lookup service. open the "full headers" from any email you've received and paste the address [in either xxx.yyy or IP address format] into the box that samspade provides and it'll do a search to find what that address is, who owns it, and where that owner is.

just in case you're a real winner, that's about 3 million USD and it will put you into the highest US tax bracket. feel free to check the tax tables in the instructions for Form 1040 to estimate the tax. [at irs.gov]

your state and/or city may also want income taxes.

Has anyone ever won anything from a sweepstakes?

I've entered so many...but have never won anything. Should I give up?

Has anyone ever won anything from a sweepstakes?
At least, I haven't seen or met any great winners! My situation is similar to yours. But, I have, at long last, given up...

In my experience, I have always earned money, the hard and authorized legal way. It really pays off very well.
Reply:I won a pair a sneakers years ago. And some concert tickets on the radio.

Did any of you win a Daily Sweepstakes for Rock Your Locker?

Is it legal for a sweepstakes to force you to buy something to win? Someone with law experience please answer!

So I won a car... now they are telling me I have to go to the university that was putting on the contest to claim it. (you did not have to be a student to enter). Isn't this essentially forcing me to pay money to claim the car, which is illegal in Canada?

All the lawyers out there please comment!

Is it legal for a sweepstakes to force you to buy something to win? Someone with law experience please answer!
Are you getting this car in Canada or the US? I am answering the question as if you are in the US.

Are they just having you pick up the car at a university or are they making you buy something? If you still have the link or paperwork that you submitted to win this car read it. I would bet money that in small print somewhere it is stated that the winner must pick up the car at the university. Often times, a winner must claim their prize at a certain location. Since you most likely agreed to that then it is a legal contract. FYI, you will have to pay taxes on the car both federal income taxes (next april) and state taxes when you register the vehicle.
Reply:unless the sweepstakes prize included delivery, I don't see a problem. They are not making you buy anything. You are free to walk to where the car is located. That you don't wish to do so is not their problem, because it is you that is requiring you to spend the money, not them.
Reply:I would suggest asking this in Yahoo! Canada.

The legal system and regulations are different here in the US.
Reply:Read the terms of agreements next time.

Does anyone know what the prizes were in Time Warner Cable's Ring In The Holidays sweepstakes?

Specifically the 2nd prize laptop. Does anyone know what model it is?

Does anyone know what the prizes were in Time Warner Cable's Ring In The Holidays sweepstakes?
I don't know, but does it really matter? If you win 2nd prize and don't like the prize, you can always sell it and use the cash to buy one that you do like.

Have you or anyone you know ever won a sweepstakes?

I always here about these amazing contests...enter to win a car %26amp; a house, open the box to see if you've won $1mil, etc. But I've never known anyone to win any of that stuff.

Have you or anyone you know ever won a sweepstakes?
nope.
Reply:I'm a member (it's free) at http://www.sweepstakestoday.com . Other members there have been winning all kinds of amazing prizes, especially these past few weeks. I'm hoping that I'm next! Most I've won so far was a $100 gift certificate to a collectibles place, a few i-tunes cards, books, keychains - lots of little things.

It's all a numbers game - the more entries you've got in there, the more likely you are to win.
Reply:i have won pens, samples, gift certs, it is really entering as much as you can, I know justfreestiff.com has a lot of contest you can enter and he has a list of his winners, you can win you just need to enter, someone is going to win, but the odds are agaisnt you
Reply:nope =[
Reply:well ive never won a contest and i dont know anyone who has won one but ill tell you this.

i hate those ridicules contests where you could "win a shopping spree" or "win 1,000,000 dollars" im just saying even though this isnt really your question.

What do you think of McDonald's Monopoly sweepstakes?

I'm collecting the game stamps, do you also do this?

What do you think of McDonald's Monopoly sweepstakes?
Two complicated given the ridiculous odds of winning.
Reply:agree with first 2 100%
Reply:No.I think its a ploy to make more money. Ppl buy more Mcds products for stamps, the more money Mcds makes.
Reply:The amount of McDonalds you would need to eat to increase your chances of winning would cause you more health problems than it would be worth. It would increase your chances of disease and therefore increasing your need for costly health care.

My take is, if you do eat at McDonalds, do it in moderation. If you win, you win. If you don't win, you probably still won.

However, I still save my game pieces when I actually do eat at McDonalds. :)
Reply:It is to make more money. I think there are chances of winning, but only the low cost to them prices. The one that you win $1,000,000 you needed boardwalk and park place...Everyone had the same one, but no one on earth had the other lol. I think what they do is make 100,000 boardwalks and put them all around the world in Mcdonalds then make like 2 park places and put one in New Zealand and the other in Egypt and in New Zealand and Egypt, there are no boardwalks.
Reply:I keep the game pieces when I get them but I don't put much effort into winning. I think most of the winning pieces get taken by employees.
Reply:Crooked as usual.
Reply:It's a fun sweepstakes, but the odds of winning the big prizes are very long. Still, someone just walked into Burger King for lunch and happened to win a huge prize, so stranger things than hitting the million dollar prize have happened.

I prefer to concentrate my time entering sweepstakes with smaller prizes but larger chances of winning!

If lotteries and Sweepstakes winners are preselected, how can it be random?

If something can be designed to look random, so everyone thinks they have a fair and equal chance at being selected, some people will buy more tickets to get better chances. It would be nice if somebody made a documentary about all past winners to discover any trends. Those who control the lottery are just like those who control the slot machines to hit the jackpot whenever they want. Every sophisticated gaming machine has built in engineering for maximizing control under the facade of total randomness. Nothing is random inside those machines. The whole system distributes money to those people or areas they want to attract more attention with, and can publicize the best. Whether anyone wins or not, the system makes millions of dollars a week. It's the ultimate dream machine, controlling the hopes and fantasies of many under the guise of being fair, when it is no way close to fair and equal. If a state lottery performs poorly, can the state prosecutor file a claim?

If lotteries and Sweepstakes winners are preselected, how can it be random?
They were random picking the finalists giving the finalist a more narrowed down chance of winning

I also received a check from Trans International Sweepstakes. What will happen if i cash it?

The check seems real so I deposited it into my account and put a hold on it. It did clear, so I put it into another account and canceled the one I used. Does anyone know what will happen next, since they cleared the check? And has anyone contacted the athorities about the fraud? I would like to know what has been found out. I tried two places and they wouldn't do anything for me. All that was said it would come back fruadulent and would not clear. Well it has, and I don't know what to do next. I really could use the money right now I'm behind on my bills and close to shut off on one of them. Can anyone help with this delima?

Who's got the inside track on the Javon Walker sweepstakes, or is nobody interested?

The Broncos released him @ his request.

Who's got the inside track on the Javon Walker sweepstakes, or is nobody interested?
A third of the league is interested in WR Javon Walker.

At least 10 teams, including all four NFC East clubs, have been in contact with Walker. The 49ers, Bills, Bucs, Panthers, Raiders, and Vikings are also interested, but no visits have been scheduled yet.
Reply:If Javon Walker's knee stays healthy he will become one of the premiere receivers in the league. Had a great year in Green Bay, before coming to the Broncos. Had a great season in Denver until his knee injury reoccured. Someone is going to get a jewel of a wide receiver.
Reply:He left his best years in Green Bay. Favre does not want this guy back. This guy is a Primadonna. I think he should go play for the Patriots.
Reply:Dallas, Tampa, and the Eagles are interested. Maybe even the Bears since they're probably gonna lose Berrien.
Reply:He's washed up.
Reply:I know that Dallas is interested.
