Have you ever won the lottery withTrans Atlantic International Sweepstakes and Lotteries and actually won?

I received a check ($3850) and letter in the mail 4 days ago stating that I had won the lottery. I called the number and the guy told me to place the check in my bank account so I did and after that the money cleared. Now he wants me to take the money to a certain location and give it to someone for clearance fees for my $225,000 check that I will receive in the mail by overnight 24 hour delivery. Should I take him this money or should I just keep it and let bygons be bygons? But I feel as if I didn't have to give them anything and I have entered into so many lotteries that I can not remember them all. Would you go threw with it or would you let it go?

Have you ever won the lottery withTrans Atlantic International Sweepstakes and Lotteries and actually won?
Did you buy a lottery ticket?

If not this is a scam. I get about five per day.

Do anyone know anything about Tenth Jackpot International Sweepstakes?

I would like to know how legit this company is so pls if know anything about them pls let me know, thank u very much.

Do anyone know anything about Tenth Jackpot International Sweepstakes?
Look at the questions I have answered on this site in my info. There are so many winners there could not be enough money to pay them all. There is no International Lottery. This is a Nigeria scam. Yahoo/MSN, U.K. and Australian lotteries, football lotteries from the same counties, Global-Link, World Poverty, Microsoft, Free Lotto, which now seems to have it's own people answering gambling questions on this site claiming they have won which is a total lie, and hundreds more. I am a retired Police Officer that has years of experience investigating Internet scams and frauds. This is an old one. The common link to them getting your email is on line surveys. Yahoo does not give it's stock holders money away nor does it give it's email subscribers address's to lotteries. The only way to win in a lottery is to buy a ticket, if you didn't you could not possibly win. Here is the website of the 17 nation law enforcement task force that investigates cross border Internet crime. You may file a complaint there. www.econsumer.gov. Also go to www.ripoffreport.com and browse complaints and you will find many having the same doubts as yourself about these scams. Below is a typical scam and how they work it. They just go under a thousand different names. They are asking you to send a prepayment to collect your winnings and they want you to send it by a money wire service. Lotteries do not just pick your name out of thin air, and just so happen to have your email also. No Internet service provider gives their email list out to lotteries. If you did not pay to play you could not possibly win.

Please send HELP... THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Reply:If you ever get an email telling you that you won money, delete it.

There are two reasons to have a lottery. One is to take in money from ticket sales, make a profit (for charity and for the organizers), and give back about half the money in prizes.

The other reason is to publicize a company. Something like when McDonald's has a million dollar sweepstakes (that actually only pays about $30,000 per year after tax for 25 years or similar).

Such a promotion is always heavily publicized and requires you to specifically enter the competition.

Those are the two basic ways that money is given away. The former is given to those who PAY to buy a ticket. The latter encourages people to do something, even though it may not be mandatory, it's generally some kind of publicity thing.

Simply picking your email address out of a hat and sending you a million dollars, just makes no sense. There would be no practical or realistic reason why this should ever happen. The company doing it would simply be giving money away for no good reason.

Any time you get an email telling you you won something, they either want you to impart some kind of personal information they can use to rip you off, or they want you to send them some money (taxes on the winnings or some other excuse), just to keep you money.

In any case, unless you actually signed up for a sweepstakes, or paid to enter a lottery it's a con.

Has anyone recieved a check from Liberty Sweepstakes?

I RECIEVED A LETTER IN THE MAIL SAYING I WAS ONE OF EIGHT WINNERS. I CALLLED THE NUMBER ON THE LETTER AND THEY SAID I WOULD HAVE MY FIRST CHECK IN 5-7 DAYS. WHEN I LOOK UP THESE PPL I CAME ACROSS SOME PPL THAT SAID THE HAD GOTTEN A CHECK BUT DIDN'T SAY IF IT WAS A LEGIT CHECK.

Has anyone recieved a check from Liberty Sweepstakes?
If you didn't enter a lottery with them, it's not legit. We have had a terrible time convincing my 88 year old mother-in-law of this. She spends her entire Social Security check on supposed lotteries. We have told her over and over again that they are a form of fraud, but she thinks they're such nice people that they wouldn't do it. I called the Secretary of State here in Indiana, they agreed with us, and sent out pamphlets explaining just how the scam works, but we still can't get through to her.
Reply:Did you actually enter the sweepstakes? If you didn't, it's probably not legit. This sounds a lot like a "something for nothing" scam. Try contacting the Attorney General's office in your state and ask if they've heard of Liberty Sweepstakes. Don't get burned!
Reply:I GOT A CHECK FROM THEM FOR $581,000.00 AND CASHED IT AND IT WENT THROUGH LIKE A CHARM . i BOUGHT SOME GREAT OCEANFRONT PROPERTY IN PHOENIX AND AM NEGOITATING TO BUY THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE ALSO .
Reply:Lottery scam letters are sent by email, regular post, Federal Express, DHL, UPS, etc. All available deliveries methods are used. In the US, the letters - along with the envelope they came in, regardless of the delivery method - are to be taken to the nearest Post Office, ATTN: US Postal Inspector. Any fraud delivered within the contiguous United States of America using any official delivery system comes under the offices of the US Postal Inspector General's Fraud Investigation Unit.

As for the documents looking oh-so-real, they're not. Using a computer graphics program, a person can create any kind of document whatsoever. Please remember that unless you can DIRECTLY contact the registered lottery company itself, not some agent, not some fellow on a cell phone, not some person in a country where the lottery is not registered with the gaming board, watch out!

Lastly, always remember - it's not who wrote the letter that makes it a scam, it's what the letter SAYS that makes it a scam.

Tips on winning sweepstakes (becoming a "sweeper")?

I want to know some of the tips that "sweepers" do to win sweepstakes....like which envelopes to use.....which stamps to use etc. which contests to enter and which not to enter.

Tips on winning sweepstakes (becoming a "sweeper")?
I enter mostly online sweeps. There's a great free website that shares information about sweeps %26amp; helps you sort them %26amp; keep track of your entries - at http://www.sweepstakestoday.com/

What's the website address to enter the flat screen tv sweepstakes from si.com?

I know it begins with www.si.com/... but I don't remember what comes after the "/". I saw it listed in the April 30th issue of Sports Illustrated while in a doctor's office but of course, I didn't have a chance to write it down and didn't take it to memory obviously.

What's the website address to enter the flat screen tv sweepstakes from si.com?
I looked and looked all over their site and found nothing. Guess you should have written it down. Then, there's always the possibility that the sweepstakes is over.

Is there a place to go to find out if a particular sweepstakes is for real?

The below link gives a comprehensive list of scams and frauds hitting the internet, what to do if you have been the victim of a scam and most importantly provides an online form where scams/frauds can be reported :

http://www.consumerfraudreporting.org/

Is there a place to go to find out if a particular sweepstakes is for real?
Yes, common sense.

Go thought this check list:

1) Are they asking me for money?

2) Are they asking me for personal information?

3) Do I recall entering that specific sweepstakes?

4) Does it sound too good to be true?

Once you review the answer to those questions, it will become pretty apparent what is happening. But if you need further verification, just send an email to the company that they claim to represent. Not the email they gave you, but the main one for the company.
Reply:Use Google to search for part of the e-mail that you received. That usually brings up lots of information, mostly at anti-scam sites.

You can also check http://www.scamwarners.com for lots of other information.

Im going to be winning 1 million dollars from a sweepstakes I have entered.....?

After taxes how much of the 1 million will I have left?

Im going to be winning 1 million dollars from a sweepstakes I have entered.....?
dream on
Reply:You have to assume federal taxes on such winnings are approximately 28-34%, so your winnings will be between 660,000 and 720,000. Not a bad days work for entering your name. Good job and yes, I'm jealous. =)
Reply:If you entered one of those sweepstakes you received in the mail, assuring you of your "big win," don't believe it. This type mail is a total scam. Contact the state where the sweepstakes is taking place....check into the consumer protection division to see if any complaints have been lodged against the company. Plus, if the sweepstakes you entered asked for money, that's a red flag that it's not on the level.
Reply:You'll have anywhere from $400,000 to $600,000 depending on where you live. Taxes will probably range between 40% and 60%.
Reply:WILL YOU BE MY FRIEND ????????????? PLEASE?????????????
Reply:after state and federal you will have a little more than half.
Reply:I really do wish you luck on winning, but if everyone that has said the same thing won, then there wouldn't be any poor people in this word. You would probably come out with about 800,000. It really depends on how much the irs wants of it.

What is Greater Savannah Sweepstakes?

my mom got a letter in the mail. We were wondering if anyone else heard of it?

What is Greater Savannah Sweepstakes?
It's hard to tell without knowing what the letter said, but if your mother didn't enter a sweepstake with that name, it's unlikely that she's a winner. It sounds like it would be a scam. For more signs that a win is a scam, see this page: http://contests.about.com/od/conttestsca... If the letter does any of those things, just ignore it or report it to the proper authorities as listed here: http://contests.about.com/od/conttestsca...
Reply:It's a scam unfortunately. For legitimate sweepstakes she can enter by purchasing a sweepstakes newsletter like Sweeping America or Sweep Sheet (can do a search online for them) or she can even enter ones online at www.online-sweepstakes.com
Reply:neither I nor google has ever heard of it

which, imho, makes it a likely scam

be very careful
Reply:I received a letter in the mail also. This is a scam. Tell her to file complaints with the FTC and US Postal Service to stop these folks.

Why did the Marlins pull out of the Manny sweepstakes?

What made Florida pull out of the potential deal for Ramirez?

Why did the Marlins pull out of the Manny sweepstakes?
The Marlins wanted too much. Basically they wanted Manny plus 7 mil, plus 2 prospects to help cover the cost for Manny's contract. All the Red Sox would get in return is Jason Bay from the Pirates. Sox didn't think that was a fair deal and pulled back...This is what I heard on ESPN today
Reply:the marlins arent good enough to be able to deal with manny..he's a little too much of a distraction to play for a team that still is building
Reply:I'm sure Manny equals their whole payroll. It made no sense for them to get him when Boston refused to pay most of his salary.
Reply:The Marlins didn't pull out, the Red Sox did. The Marlins were asking for more than the Red Sox wanted to give up.
Reply:Hermida - 3 hits, 2 RBI, 3 runs scored...

and he can cover more ground in the outfield...

... im glad it didnt happen, not for Jeremy.

If my 15 year old son wins a sweepstakes, will this effect my taxes or not?

My son is only 15 and of course he doesn't pay taxes, and i didn't win the sweepstakes, he did.

If my 15 year old son wins a sweepstakes, will this effect my taxes or not?
You don't say where you live, but if you're in the US, then your son will have to pay taxes on his winnings. Age doesn't matter, he still has to file, and pay.

It's a fairly rare sweepstakes that allows a 15 year old to enter, but congratulations to him in any case - I guess he (and you) won't have to worry about how he's going to pay for college.

The only way it would affect your taxes is if he uses it to support himself this year, which would be pretty rare for a 15 year old - then you might lose your depenency exemption for him.

The above answer assumes you're in the US.
Reply:dont you have to be 18 to buy a ticket and claim a prize?
Reply:How was he notified that he won? I get an email about once a week telling me that I have won a sweepstakes. They always want money. I just delete their messages because they are scammers.

If he really won, he will have to pay taxes himself from the winnings. It won't affect your taxes.
Reply:yes he is your dependent and you claim him on your taxes, the IRS does not care if he does not work they consider any amount of money that you make or win, taxable, and if you want to claim him as a dependent then yes you have to take the fall, thats why they usually make contests like that for eighteen or older, but if he didn't win over a thousand I don't know that they would make you claim it
Reply:It is my understanding that sweepstakes are taxed off the top, so the taxes will already be paid before your son get's diddle.
Reply:thought u had to 18 or 21 to win a lottery
Reply:%26gt;Somebody has to pay the taxes....but I'm sure ready to take that terrible problem off your hands if it bothers you that much.%26lt;

Is lotto, publishers clearing house sweepstakes legit?

I received a ckeck from them and it just doesn't sound right

Is lotto, publishers clearing house sweepstakes legit?
Publisher's Clearinghouse is legit, but they don't just send checks without warning. You have probably received a very common scam going around right now, where the scammers pose as important companies in the sweepstakes industry and try to convince you that they are legitimate by including a check. The check is either forged or they put a stop payment on it right away.

You never have to pay taxes to a sweepstakes sponsor, or to pay handling or service fees to get them to release a prize.

Reply:The famous "Nigerian" Scam. This of course is a slight twist on it. Oh you won money now pay us to give it to you. Think about this for a moment. They have the money. They owe it to you. YET they need YOU to give them money to transfer it. Wouldn't they set the winner's money aside for transfer fees? I mean say I owe you a million and it will cost me 100,000 to transfer. So wouldn't I make the top prize 900,000 and keep aside that transfer fee? Alot of people don't take the time to think that through. That is why the scam works.

Don't do them. Don't reply to them. They are scams. Dateline NBC did a whole show on these types of emails. They actually responded to them. Alot of these emails come from Africa. After many replies and more info they get you to go over to Europe and meet with a guy. The guy gets a deposit from you and then wants more. He squeezes as much money out of you as possible then dissapears. NBC didn't just investigate one email... they replied to dozens. Another variation of the Nigerian lottery scam (due to the lax laws in Nigeria, many scammers have based their operations there).
Reply:All spam emails/unsolicted letters and faxes are scams.

As a general rule - ANYTHING involving Western Union/money gram = Scam.

my Advice: Don't deal with anyone from a foreign country or Accept checks from strangers and never use wire/bank transfer services.. you risk losing your $$ and your mind.

Delete all foreign lottery emails and throw away foreign lottery faxes and letters cause they are ALL scams.

I got a sweepstakes letter in the mail saying I won 200,000 dollars. Is it legitimate?

They sent me a check for 4,450.00and said that 2,950.00 would deducted from my winnings for taxes..have a bunch of numbers and such also an assigned claims attorney with a phone number ..What do you think? Is it for real or is it a Scam?

I got a sweepstakes letter in the mail saying I won 200,000 dollars. Is it legitimate?
If you did not pay to play you could not possibly win.

recieved letter of winning $65000.00 Pacific Player International lotteries, please contact claims agent miss linda strong at 204-951-7582. Second letter came with a check for the amount of $2,470.00 To deposited in my bank account for processing fee,a week later check cleared my bank. I contacted my claims agent over the phone she advise me to wire the balance of $2,341.00 to a Mr Edward Culwell in New York,New York.I called miss linda strong to advise her of the western union confirmation number,to date can not get in touch with linda strong just her voice mail, I know now that it was all a RIP-OFF and now Iam in the hole with $2,470.00 with my bank.... Please send HELP... THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Reply:What you need to do is deposite the check in the bank and wait for it to clear before you spend any of the money. Almost a 3,000 dollar deduction from a 4.5K win? that sounds rediculous and should throw up some red flags right there.
Reply:it is a SCAM trash it i get them all the time alone with all kinds of other stuff that sounds to good to be true. DON'T GET SUCK IN BY ALL OF THIS. i know u have heard the old saying what looks is not always good.
Reply:SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just got one saying I had won $950,00 from South Africa. They want you to pay them something for taxes, or processing fees or some such bunk. don't fall for it please!
Reply:scam. If you didn't enter the contest, how could you be a winner? They will (of course) be asking you for your credit card number, your bank account number, and/or for you to make a small deposit into an offshore account.

p.s. did you know the word "gullible" isn't in the dictionary?
Reply:I got a similar letter. So I called the company that was on the check, and the person on the other line spoke with an Indian accent. He said "yes" I had won the lottery. He told me to call the agent that was listed in the letter.

Instead, I called the bank that the check was drawn from. Even thought the check was a "real" check, and the company was a "real" company, they did not have an account with that bank. The phone number under the company was not it's real phone number.

I'll tell you as soon as I stopped the lottery emails the started coming to my mail box outside my house.

So, I called the agent listed in the letter, it was odd that their business hours were from 4pm to 10pm. I called them at 5pm and left them a horrible message.

I have kept the check and the letter. I look at it every day. I am wanting to come up with a way to get even with all these con artists. And when I do; I will have really won a lottery.
Reply:It's a scam dont waste a phone call did you enter this lottery by buying a ticket if you didnot just tear it up and forget it if you call the number they will ask you for money and bank details because that is what they are after dont do it.

Fraudsters send fake emails or set up fake web sites that mimic Yahoo!'s sign-in pages (or the sign-in pages of other trusted companies, such as eBay or PayPal) to trick you into disclosing your user name and password. This practice is sometimes referred to as "phishing" — a play on the word "fishing" — because the fraudster is "fishing" for your private account information.

Typically, fraudsters try to trick you into providing your user name and password so that they can gain access to an online account. Once they steal your password, they can use your personal information to commit identity theft, charge your credit cards, empty your bank accounts, read your email, and lock you out of your online account by changing your password.

If you receive one of these emails, mark it as spam, including any messages that originate from a yahoo.com email address. These emails are usually sent in bulk, and are rarely targeted at a specific individual. Yahoo cannot investigate these scams—reporting these emails as spam is the most effective measure you can take as it will help ensure additional copies are not delivered.

To report a phishing email, please forward the email to phishing@cc.yahoo-inc.com

I've gotten so many of those spam emails, claiming I've won millions of dollars in sweepstakes I've never entered. They are all fake and will actually cause you to lose money.

How do sweepstakes work??

you cut out each participating team or person in a competition. for example, all 16 teams of the European championships at the moment.

Then you put these names in a hat, or bag. People then take a team name without looking at what it is, and pay a set amount of money. Say, £5.00. All 16 teams are then pulled out of the hat, meaning that there is then £80.00 collected.

The prize money can then be split out however you want to. for example, £50.00 to the winner, £30.00 to the runner up, or £50.00 to the winner, £20.00 for the runner up, and £5.00 each for the semi-finalists.

It's just a laugh and makes certain competitions more exciting, and you don't have to know anything about the sport or event to take part.

DO i LOSE MY SOCIAL SECURITY IF i WIN A SWEEPSTAKES?

Is there a legal way to keep sweepstakes, so that i will not affect my monthly social security

DO i LOSE MY SOCIAL SECURITY IF i WIN A SWEEPSTAKES?
The only way they would be able to take it is if you were on Social Security disbility.
Reply:I am currently going through a divorce and was granted tempera spousal support; I also draw Disability Social Security. I called to report the new income and I was told that it would not affect my Sol.Sec. I also told them that when my divorce was over I would probably be getting quite a bit more money and still they told me it did not matter; my Soc. Sec. check would not be affected. Don't be afraid to call your Soc. Sec. office and simply ask them.
Reply:Depends on your age. At 65 and three months, it doesn't matter how much you make.
Reply:r u a scab ripping off the system
Reply:you will not lose benefits but there will be tax consquences--unless you are referring to medicaid or similiar benefits--not the regular social security--then either assets or earnings over the limit will end those benefits.
Reply:It probably depends on your age. If your 65 or older probably not, but call or email then to be sure.
Reply:It is not earned income from a job so it shouldn't be affected.
Reply:Never heard of anyone losing their social security (check) for winning a lottery or sweepstakes. I work part time and still receive both retirement and s.s check.
Reply:I am willing to bet that the taxes will be deducted and I think like the other person said as long as your at the age of retiring your fine. But I would call the feds and ask the rule might of changed in the last three minutes.

This is a SCAM. Check out the below link for confirmation of several email scams including the famous Yahoo lottery scam and how to report them.

http://www.consumerfraudreporting.org/lo...

Unscrupulous thieves have sent you this email and they are trying to part you from your hard earned cash. They will often ask you to call a premium rate number and keep you holding on whilst you rack up a huge phone bill. They are then paid a large proportion of this phone bill. They may ask you to divulge personal information or ask for your bank or credit card details. Do not divulge any such information under any circumstances. It is surprising how many innocent victims have been duped by these types of emails. Just remember the thieves who send them are very clever and extremely convincing. I suggest you mark it as spam, delete it and send it into cyberspace, hopefully along with the thieving scumbags who send them.

Well to be honest, you will never get your money back, many people have been tricked by these type of scams. Trying to catch these people are, in most cases impossible.

Sorry about your loss, be very careful in the future.

You don't have to pay anything until you start making money. At least you will be able to make your money back. It is a simple referral site. Go to www.RankFirstPro.com then scroll down and click on the penny. What is on that home page is what you are referring so if you want to read about it you can. I know it stinks to loose money everyone is so broke right now with this economy. My husband and I have been working with this company for 2 years now and they are finally launching this site. They are great trustworthy guys that own the company that is why they made it so that you don't have to pay until you start actually making money. Check it out!

Who will land the Scott Gomez sweepstakes?

Scott Gomez announced he will become an unrestricted free agent today and will demand top dollar for his services. Since the Devils will probably not fork over the salary to keep him, what team will land him?

Who will land the Scott Gomez sweepstakes?
i think the people knockin gomez don't know hockey. he is a very skilled and fast player who plays in a defencive system. if he played for a team like ottawa or buffalo he would put up big numbers. to answer your question i've heard on tsn that the leafs might go after him
Reply:I hope the Flyers pick him up. He can bring some veteran leadership that they sorely need. He's a grinder which fits the Flyers system well. The Flyers have been missing a good physical center since we traded Handzus and Primeau retired. He'd be a good fit in Philly, probably a 3rd line player though, behind Briere (we will sign him, there was a reason we traded for Biron) and Jeff Carter. As much as it pains me to give credit to a Devils player, I've always liked Gomez.
Reply:I don't know, but I have to think his playoff performance versus Ottawa hurts his overall appeal.
Reply:Rumours have him heading to the west coast where an American star is required in LA LA land.
Reply:St. Louis is going to throw some money around this offseason. Gomez certainly will get some great offers.
Reply:I think that whatever team he signs with should thank their lucky stars to be getting such a talent. I hope that he will re-sign with the Devils, but, I'm sure that Lou will not do what is in the best interest of the team and try and keep him. Good luck to you Gomer where ever you end up
Reply:He is a third line player and will get third line money!
Reply:I Hope He resigns with Jersey, god, well miss him so much!! Wow Wat a player he is, good enough for a briere-gomez trade!!!
Reply:hell die in a week.
Reply:He'll be back in Jersey
Reply:Wow, some of these responders are out to lunch. I am one of the biggest detractors of NJ's style, but Gomez is one of the real talents on that squad. He leads playoff scorers, is a remarkable playmaker and his skating has improved ten-fold since he broke into the league.

He may not get Drury money, but he's at $5M right now and $6M is not out of the question, by any means.
Reply:Who cares!!! He cant skate , hes slow as a dog. Chris drury is the one free agent everybody wants!
Reply:Who cares. He's not a great player and therefore not worth top dollar. He's not skilled offensively, he's not great defensively and he's not a good playmaker. On most teams he'd be 2nd line at best.

Anybody ever won/entered the Reader Digest National Sweepstakes?

I received this invitation to purchase a years subscription from Reader Digest and to be entered into the National Sweepstakes for a grand price of $500,000.00. Has anybody else ever done that? Has anybody ever won? Do you know of anybody who did win? I would like to find out what the odds are or how credible this is.

Anybody ever won/entered the Reader Digest National Sweepstakes?
It's like the Publisher's Clearing House. people win, but no one you know and certainly not you
Reply:I have never thought about it until now. No I never heard of any one winning!
Reply:I have entered the Publishing Clearance Sweepstakes all the time always make it to the final level but have yet to see one dollar. I dont know anybody who has ever won anything.
Reply:I've entered, and entered, and entered.....they tell you that you made it to the Semi final round, the final round and that's where you sort of stay, just keep getting these things to fill out and either send in or complete on line. So far I've won zip...just like the Pub Clearing House...but someone did win that on our street a few years ago. So at least someone is giving away something.

I never sign up for any of the 'subscriptions' or such...maybe that's why I keep getting these repetitive entry notices over and over again :) Just got one the other day in which I've been a supposed finalist for 3 entry forms ago now. Draw --supposedly Mar 31...right!
Reply:no
Reply:Yes, people really do win! I believe they pick the winners in January of each year.

Reply:Fist of all, did you enter this lottery? If not, you can't be a winner. Furthermore, no lottery organisation advises its winners by e-mail. It's a scam, my friend. Have nothing to do with it.
Reply:It's a complete con trick, there is no such lottery, what else do you need to know?

Does the name even sound likely? What Africa has so much money they can just bundle it up by the million and give it to random Internet users? They also got Europe and Asia on board two? And out of all three continents with over two billion people on them, you are the lucky person they pick to give money to? Despite never paying to enter any such lottery?

If you believe that, I have some magic beans I'd like to sell you.

Is Yahoo! Inc. sponsoring UK National Lottery online Sweepstakes International Manchester United Kimgdom?

I receive an e-mail saying I won on Thursday March 8, 2007 and this particular promotion sponsored by Yahoo! Inc. Is this a scam of some kind?

Is Yahoo! Inc. sponsoring UK National Lottery online Sweepstakes International Manchester United Kimgdom?
Look at the questions I have answered in gambling on this site in my info.

Reply:Yep, a scam. Yahoo! have never offered a lottery, and the UK lottery does not give money away to people unless they have purchased a ticket.

How often does anyone of you enter sweepstakes and how often do you win?

I quit entering Publishers Clearing House when I realized that I had a better chance of winning if I took the money I would have spent on stamps and bought lottery tickets instead.

How often does anyone of you enter sweepstakes and how often do you win?
I never won any kind of lottery prize, here in Brazil, unless in my kind of job, I always won, that is to say, it is not everyday, because my work is draftee everyday, and three times a day.

And then sometimes I win two or three times in a year, but it is not money enough to stay rich.

How genuine is the free lotto sweepstakes ?

i have been told ive won so much, now they need my credit card # to send the cash to me, i am a bit skeptic, should i send it or is this thing a scam? Need answers now

How genuine is the free lotto sweepstakes ?
Here is the website for the 17 nation law enforcement task force that investigates cross border Internet crime. File a complaint there. www.econsumer.gov No one has won anything and they are using their people to answer questions on this site claiming they have. Make sure to go the website I list below. They said you won One million, ten thousand and three hundred. Free Lotto has also started a new scam that they claim they are the distributors of the winnings and sellers of legitimate lottery tickets. They are claiming a prize of one hundred and nine-five million dollars. There is no TSN number or C V V code it is part of the scam. Free Lotto is a credit card scam run by a criminal group called PlasmaNet from a P.O. box at Grand Central Station in N.Y. I am a retired Police Officer that as a hobby investigates Internet fraud. Free Lotto is one of the biggest scams. Go to www.ripoffreport.com and enter the search words Free Lotto and you will find hundreds that have been taken in. Internet Survey companies are the biggest source of scammers getting your email address. Free Lotto sells your email address to other scammers so be aware, you will, in all probability, have more scams come across your computer screen. Free Lotto, once they have your credit card information draws anywhere from $9.95 to $20.00 a month from your account. You must notify your bank in person immediatly. The checks that have come to winners from Free Lotto are in the $00.18 (18 cents) to no more than $1.00 (one dollar) range and they are drawn on accounts that don't exist. Bouncers. If you have been a victim, as many have, your local FBI Office will have an email address that you can forward the offending email to. Call your local office and ask for the address. Tell them if you are a victim or not. The Federal Communications Commission also has an investigative arm that you may forward the complaint to. Here is the Name, address and phone of the crook that runs Free Lotto. I suggest those that have been taken, is give him a call. Kevin J. Aronin, 20 Echo Bay Place, New Rochelle N.Y. (914) 654-8900 and (914) 654-8976. He may have changed his number by now because I have advised many that have contacted me to call him. Many complaints have gone to the Attorney General of New York but they have found no reason as yet to investigate. There are hundreds that have had their accounts stolen from even after they have "Unsubscribed" from Free Lotto so I find it curious that law enforcement has done nothing on this scam. Just be aware. I have read many of the questions on this site on lotteries and every one I have seen here is a scam. There is no free lunch, there is no "Pie in the Sky" but what there is are a lot of crooks that are very smart on the computer, but as a whole stupid on the scams they run. They play to the victims greed and the something for nothing that baits many in. Use common sense. I suggest that those that have been taken in by Free Lotto advise the I.R.S. of Income Tax fraud by Mr. Aronin. The I.R.S. will make his life more miserable than the FBI can. The FBI can jail him but the IRS will hound him for the rest of his life, in fact, even after he is dead they will hound him
Reply:Its as genuine as a screen door on a battleship. It doesn't happen. Don't give them your info!

President's Choice Financial told me that i had just won their $150,000 sweepstakes. Is this a scam?

They sent me a check for $4,850 to help cover the Non Resident Government Tax of $2,950.

President's Choice Financial told me that i had just won their $150,000 sweepstakes. Is this a scam?
Check overpayment. They send you a check for, in this case, 4850. and you send them back 2950, The bank you deposited the check in will later inform you that the check was a fake, and you need to return any money you withdrew against it. And if you sent 3,000 back to the company, well, good luck getting it back.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has issued a consumer alert on counterfeit check scams. Please read below:

Giving the Bounce to Counterfeit Check Scams \http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer...

It’s your lucky day! You just won a foreign lottery! The letter says so. And the cashier’s check to cover the taxes and fees is included. All you have to do to get your winnings is deposit the check and wire the money to the sender to pay the taxes and fees. You’re guaranteed that when they get your payment, you’ll get your prize.

There’s just one catch: this is a scam. The check is no good, even though it appears to be a legitimate cashier’s check. The lottery angle is a trick to get you to wire money to someone you don’t know. If you were to deposit the check and wire the money, your bank would soon learn that the check was a fake. And you’re out the money because the money you wired can’t be retrieved, and you’re responsible for the checks you deposit — even though you don’t know they’re fake. This is just one example of a counterfeit check scam that could leave you scratching your head.

The Federal Trade Commission, the nation’s consumer protection agency, wants you to know that counterfeit check scams are on the rise. Some fake checks look so real that bank tellers are reporting being fooled. The scammers use high quality printers and scanners to make the checks look real. Some of the checks contain authentic-looking watermarks. These counterfeit checks are printed with the names and addresses of legitimate financial institutions. And even though the bank and account and routing numbers listed on a counterfeit check may be real, the check still can be a fake. These fakes come in many forms, from cashier’s checks and money orders to corporate and personal checks. Could you be a victim? Not if you know how to recognize and report them.

Fake Checks: Variations on a Scheme

Counterfeit or fake checks are being used in a growing number of fraudulent schemes, including foreign lottery scams (as described above), check overpayment scams, Internet auction scams, and secret shopper scams.

Check overpayment scams target consumers selling cars or other valuable items through classified ads or online auction sites. Unsuspecting sellers get stuck when scammers pass off bogus cashier’s checks, corporate checks, or personal checks. Here’s how it happens:

A scam artist replies to a classified ad or auction posting, offers to pay for the item with a check, and then comes up with a reason for writing the check for more than the purchase price. The scammer asks the seller to wire back the difference after depositing the check. The seller does it, and later, when the scammer’s check bounces, the seller is left liable for the entire amount.

In secret shopper scams, the consumer, hired to be a secret shopper, is asked to evaluate the effectiveness of a money transfer service. The consumer is given a check, told to deposit it in their bank account, and withdraw the amount in cash. Then, the consumer is told to take the cash to the money transfer service specified, and typically, send the transfer to a person in a Canadian city. Then, the consumer is supposed to evaluate their experience — but no one collects the evaluation. The secret shopper scenario is just a scam to get the consumer’s money.

Con artists who use these schemes can easily avoid detection. When funds are sent through wire transfer services, the recipients can pick up the money at other locations within the same country; it is nearly impossible for the sender to identify or locate the recipient.

You and Your Bank — Who is Responsible for What?

Under federal law, banks must make funds available to you from U.S. Treasury checks, official bank checks (cashier’s checks, certified checks, and teller’s checks), and checks paid by government agencies at the opening of business the day after you deposit the check. For other checks, banks must similarly make the first $100 available the day after you deposit the check. Remaining funds must be made available on the second day after the deposit if payable by a local bank, and within five days if drawn on distant banks.

However, just because funds are available on a check you’ve deposited doesn’t mean the check is good. It’s best not to rely on money from any type of check (cashier, business or personal check, or money order) unless you know and trust the person you’re dealing with or, better yet — until the bank confirms that the check has cleared. Forgeries can take weeks to be discovered and untangled. The bottom line is that until the bank confirms that the funds from the check have been deposited into your account, you are responsible for any funds you withdraw against that check.

Protecting Yourself

Here’s how to avoid a counterfeit check scam:

Throw away any offer that asks you to pay for a prize or a gift. If it’s free or a gift, you shouldn’t have to pay for it. Free is free.

Resist the urge to enter foreign lotteries. It’s illegal to play a foreign lottery through the mail or the telephone, and most foreign lottery solicitations are phony.

Know who you’re dealing with, and never wire money to strangers.

If you’re selling something, don’t accept a check for more than the selling price, no matter how tempting the offer or how convincing the story. Ask the buyer to write the check for the correct amount. If the buyer refuses to send the correct amount, return the check. Don’t send the merchandise.

As a seller, you can suggest an alternative way for the buyer to pay, like an escrow service or online payment service.

There may be a charge for an escrow service. If the buyer insists on using a particular escrow or online payment service you’ve never heard of, check it out. Visit its website, and read its terms of agreement and privacy policy. Call the customer service line. If there isn’t one — or if you call and can’t get answers about the service’s reliability — don’t use the service. To learn more about escrow services and online payment systems, visit ftc.gov/onlineshopping.

If you accept payment by check, ask for a check drawn on a local bank, or a bank with a local branch. That way, you can make a personal visit to make sure the check is valid. If that’s not possible, call the bank where the check was purchased, and ask if it is valid. Get the bank’s phone number from directory assistance or an Internet site that you know and trust, not from the check or from the person who gave you the check.

If the buyer insists that you wire back funds, end the transaction immediately. Legitimate buyers don’t pressure you to send money by wire transfer services. In addition, you have little recourse if there’s a problem with a wire transaction.

Resist any pressure to “act now.” If the buyer’s offer is good now, it should be good after the check clears.
Reply:Yes, they want you to cash the check, keep a portion and send them the rest. Once you do that, you will discover the check was a bad one. Now you will owe your bank ALL of the money back plus fees. I sure hope you have not tried to cash that check. Remember it is always a scam if they tell you you have won a contest you did not enter.
Reply:YES it is a SCAM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tear up that check right now!!!!!!

How do you know if you have really won a sweepstakes?

i enter a sweepstakes and i got something in the mail about it but i am not sure if its real it says i am the winner i don't know if its a scam how do you tell.

How do you know if you have really won a sweepstakes?
If there is no one knocking on your door to present you with a check for bookoo bucks.

There is no TV camera out there to record you screaming OMG then you probably didn't win.

All the ones I have entered strung me along for months with promise after promise then at the end tried to sell me something.

If you won, they will record your reaction.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Reply:If you entered the sweep and received a letter in the mail that you're the winner - it sounds good so far! But there are a few signs that it could be a scam. Some of them include:

* Was the letter sent by bulk mail?

* Did it use a generic "Dear Winner" greeting instead of your real name?

* Did it ask for money before you would receive the win?

* Did it ask for a bank account or credit card number (social security numbers are ok, though, many sweepstakes require them from winners).

Does anyone know of a website where you can actually win money or prizes for playing their sweepstakes and gam

I have been playing freelotto and pch and have yet to win anything. I would appreciate it if anyone knows what sites are best to play and which ones really give out prizes or money. I really love playing these fun little games in my free time and would like to win at least one real prize and not have to be charged for it like you are on freelotto. Any suggestions would be great!!! Just a little fun in my spare time.
