Have u heard of a sweepstakes issuing checks from Bernards builders/management?

I was sent a check for over $3000.00 for entering an online sweepstakes. This check is from Bernards and uses Mellon 1rst buisness bank in Encino California. This money is suppossed to go towards obtaining my final award of $70,000 and such a fee is necessary because the funds are processed internationally. Is this a scam?

I would have to say it is most likely a scam. If you have actually won a sweepstakes, they should be able to take any fees out of the money you won. There is a common scam where people are sent invalid checks, asked to return money to the company, in order to either sell or get more money. When in doubt, check Snopes and see what you can find there. Here are links to two stories about your situation.

Snopes also mentions that your situation is a version of the cashier's check fraud.

Simply put, I wouldn't send them a dime. I would have your bank check out the validity of the check. Good luck!
Reply:Yes, i recieved the same letter and check saying that i won $3158.43 from Bernards Builders, Management Services. I think it is a scam but the check looks soooo real. Report Abuse
