Are sweepstakes real or is it just a lie?

My grandmother just recently got involvede in a sweepstake. She recieved confirmations from different organizations saying that she won thousands of dollars. They are now asking for $5-$25 each for a processing fee and asking her when to come knocking at her door. She believes them is continuasly paying them for processing fees. Does anybody know whether this is true or a scam? Please answer me if you know.

Are sweepstakes real or is it just a lie?
Why don't you *think* for a moment.. if she won 1000s of dollars, why do they want a processing fee of $25 bucks.. wouldn't it be easier to give her the 1000s minus th $25?
Reply:The other person is correct. When they start asking for "fees", then it's a scam. If you'd truly won something, they would take any fees out of the winning total, you'd never pay it in cash up front. Beware! Tell your Grandmother to STOP paying them.
